Shailly is a fifth year MD/MBA candidate interested in healthcare operations and entrepreneurship. At the University of Michigan Medical School, Shailly is on the Global Health & Disparities Path of Excellence track, where she spent time researching clinical outcomes of Cesarean Sections in rural Kenya. She also has significant clinical and operational volunteer experience at various free health clinics and worked as an international volunteer for Unite for Sight. Prior to Michigan, Shailly was a high school science teacher for a charter school network in Chicago with Teach for America. This summer she interned at ZS Associates as a Strategy Consultant. Shailly holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Biology from Cornell University.
Jason is a second-year MBA concentrating on healthcare management; he spent his summer internship in San Francisco on the market analysis and strategy team at Genentech. Prior to Ross, he was a Senior Healthcare Consultant at The Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC. Jason advised hospital clients on performance improvement and cost reduction initiatives in surgical operations. Previously, Jason used financial modeling and market analysis to counsel hospitals on capital technology investment decisions for oncology and imaging services. Prior to Advisory Board, Jason was a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health concentrating on immunology research. Jason holds a B.A. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Max is a second-year MBA concentrating on Marketing and General Management. She spent the summer interning at General Mills in Minneapolis, Minnesota as a Brand Management intern. Prior to Ross, she was a Manager in Strategy & Analysis at DigitasLBi, a digital advertising agency in Chicago. At Digitas Max managed a team that focused on data analytics and reporting for a large Fortune 500 financial client. Prior to DigitasLBi, Max worked at a smaller agency, VivaKi, that was focused on R&D in the digital advertising space. She spent her time at VivaKi driving development of customized solutions for clients paid search challenges. Max holds a B.A. in Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Jon is a fourth-year doctoral student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on the development of a noninvasive, nonthermal ablation technique known as histotripsy which uses high amplitude focused ultrasound pulses to generate precisely controlled acoustic cavitation, thereby mechanically fractionating target structures such as tumors into a-cellular, liquid-like debris (http://xulab.bme.umich.edu/). Prior to matriculating at the University of Michigan, Jon worked as a mechanical engineer at Stratos Product Development in Seattle, WA where he developed medical devices for clients including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Intellectual Ventures Laboratory and others. Here, projects included point of care diagnostics, passive vaccine storage, and the development of large-scale production equipment for a cancer immunotherapy vaccine then in phase III clinical trials. Jon holds a B.S. in physics from the University of Washington and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Boston University.
Sarah is a second-year MBA focusing on corporate finance and strategy. Prior to Ross, Sarah worked at Guidebook, a software startup in San Francisco, CA, where she was responsible for the Company's accounting and finance. Before Guidebook, she worked at Deloitte as an Auditor focusing on technology companies. Sarah is a Certified Public Accountant, and holds a B.S. in Commerce from Santa Clara University.
Max is a third year PhD candidate in the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Program and is interested in biotechnology. He is a National Science Foundation Graduate Student Fellow and current research uses cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches to study mechanisms of cell membrane receptor regulation. Max holds a B.S. in Biology from the State University of New York College at Fredonia.
Yen is a second year MBA student focusing on Finance and Strategy. Prior to Ross, Yen worked as an equity research analyst for an asset management fund in Vietnam, where she coverred FIG, utilities, retails and rubber. Before that, she spent 1 year with Intel as risk management analyst and 3 years with Deloitte as auditor. During the summer, she intered at RBC in their Global Investment Banking Division, specializing in Financial Institution Group. She holds a B.A in Corporate Finance. She alo cleared all 3 levels of CFA Institute's Chartered Financial Analyst program.
Biming is a fifth year Ph.D candidate at the University of Michigan Biomedical Engineering Department. His research focuses on genetic modification of stem cells for orthopedic applications. Biming is also interested in designing computing tools to improve the efficiency of basic science research. Prior to WVF, Biming worked as a consultant at PreScouter, Inc., where he performed technology landscaping and due diligence for biotechnology and healthcare companies and connected them with leaders in academic research. Biming received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of Iowa. Apart from engineering, he also spent four years in a biology laboratory working on muscular dystrophy research at the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa.
Ryan is a second-year MBA candidate with a focus on Finance and Strategy. This summer, Ryan will be working as a Summer Associate for Barclays Capital in their Investment Banking Division covering Power, Utilities, & Infrastructure. Prior to Ross, Ryan worked as a Relationship Manager for Wells Fargo Bank in the Commercial Banking division, where he advised middle market private companies on debt capital structures and treasury management. Prior to Wells, Ryan was a buyer for Oracle Corporation in the Optical Hardware division. Ryan holds a B.S. in Business - Finance from California State University, Fresno.
Dan is a second year MBA/MS dual degree candidate focusing on finance and renewable energy. Prior to Ross, Dan worked as a contracts negotiator at Raytheon, a leading aerospace technology firm in Boston, Massachusetts. As a graduate of Raytheon's Contracts Leadership Development Program, Dan negotiated and structured deals for missile defense and commercial infrastructure projects valued over $5B with domestic and international customers. Dan holds a B.S.B.A in Finance and a B.A. in Political Science from Ohio State.
Aaron is a second year MBA candidate focusing on corporate finance and strategy. Prior to Ross, Aaron worked at the Vice President of Operations for Grand Circus, a coding bootcamp and co-working space in Detroit, where he ran everything from technical curriculum development to profit-maximization strategy. Before Grand Circus, Aaron co-founded an eCommerce start-up in Detroit that was named one of “The Best Startups to Work for in America” and worked as a math teacher with Teach for America in Charlotte, NC. Aaron holds a B.A. in International Relations from the James Madison College at Michigan State University.
Mark is a first-year MBA concentrating on investment management, private equity, and venture capital. Prior to Ross, he was a consultant at ZS Associates, a consulting firm specializing in sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical space. At ZS, Mark managed a team focused on technology strategy and lead implementation teams of over 30 indviduals across 3 different clients. Prior to ZS, Mark worked for Accenture where he worked in the healthcare space, on both the payer and provider sides, working on electronic medial record systems and insurance plan integrations. Mark holds a B.S.E in IOE from the University of Michigan college of engineering.
Rebecca is a first year MBA focusing on finance. Prior to Ross, Rebecca worked as a consultant at Accenture where she worked on systems implementation and change management initiatives for large technology and financial services clients. Following Accenture, she worked at Splunk, a machine data software company based in San Francisco, where she led the Salesforce.com support & maintenance delivery. Outside of work, Rebecca actively supported Minds Matter, an education nonprofit, for six years in New York and San Francisco. Rebecca holds a B.A in Economics and International Relations from the University of California, Davis.
Gerard Heath is a fourth-year MD/MBA student at the University of Michigan interested in emergency medicine and healthcare innovation. Gerard is also a current member of the board of directors at American Indian Health and Family Services, a non-profit community health clinic in southwest Detroit, serving on the committee for medical quality and safety. In addition to his work on the Wolverine Venture Fund, Gerard is currently working with a team of graduate students from medicine, business, and engineering to develop an ultrasound prototype aimed at bridging the diagnostic gap in the developing world. Prior to medical school, Gerard worked as both a college ice hockey referee and a certified grey wolf handler on the Nez Perce reservation in northwestern Idaho. Gerard holds a B.S in environmental studies from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Abbie is a first-year MBA focusing on strategy and data analytics. Prior to Ross, Abbie worked at Uberflip, a SaaS startup in Toronto, Canada, where she was a Success Coach responsible for building client relationships and driving strategic implementation of the SaaS product platform. Before Uberflip she worked in retail analytics at Precima, a global retail strategy & analytics firm, leveraging retailer data to build consumer insights and recommendations for Fortune 500 CPG clients. Abbie holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Global Strategy and Environmental Studies from McGill University.
Erdong is a first year MBA focusing on finance and strategy. Prior to Ross, Erdong worked at HSBC for five years. She started as a management trainee and rotated in commercial banking, credit analysis unit and global markets. After the two-year program, Erdong took the role of corporate relationship manger, where she managed a protfolio of 70 corporate clients in different industries, and provided comprehensive banking solutions. Erdong holds a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from East China Normal University.
Xiaoxi is a first-year MBA focusing on strategy and is interested in investment management. Prior to Ross, Xiaoxi worked at Venture Avenue, a social impact firm in Shanghai, where she was responsible for impact investing and philanthropy consulting. Before Venture Avenue, she worked at Mars Chocolate China as a General Management Trainee with experience in production management and strategy finance. Xiaoxi holds a B.S. in Statistics from Fudan University in China.
Patrick is an MD/MBA Candidate who is interested in healthcare operations and healthcare technology. At Weill Cornell Medicine, where Patrick has completed three years of his medical training, he has conducted design research leveraging natural language processing to summarize medical texts and he volunteers at the student-run health clinic. Prior to medicine, Patrick worked for DuPont in their solar panel business, leading product development, and regulatory teams. Additionally, during that time Patrick co-founded the Student-Run Housing Unit of Philadelphia, which will open for its 7th season this November. Patrick holds a BA in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mike is a second-year MBA/MS/MS student focusing on financial statistics, renewable energy technology and finance. Prior to school, Mike served as a Nuclear Engineering Officer on board nuclear submarines where he directed the daily operations of a nuclear reactor. Mike holds a BS in Economics from the United States Naval Academy.
