Funding Opportunities
During the summer immediately following the academic year, the program provided MsE students with the opportunity and support (in the form of seed funding and mentorship) to launch their technology-based ventures, should both the venture and team be deemed viable.
Students are also encouraged to become integral members of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem and compete for external funds:
University of Michigan Related Entrepreneurship Funding Opportunities
- Clean Energy Venture Challenge: $175,000 prizes and prototype grants
- Dare to Dream: $865,970 awarded to 760 recipients (from 1917 applicants)
- Marcel Gani internship program: $1.4M awarded to 246 students, 124 companies
- Michigan Business Challenge: $372,950 awarded to 1103 students
- Michigan Growth Capital Symposium: Operational for over 30 years, 871 company presentations, and over $1B invested into new businesses.
- Provost Funded Center for Entrepreneurship Jump Start Grants: $50,000 of grants for student venture creation
- Social Venture Fund: Impact investment fund that invests in sustainable, innovative, for-profit companies that place the generation of a significant social impact at the heart of their mission and way of doing business.
- Wolverine Venture Fund and Frankel Commercialization Fund: 46 investments in 30 companies, $3.5M invested, 4 very positive exits.
- Michigan Business Challenge: $372,950 awarded to 1103 students
- 1000 Pitches: $1,000 to top entrepreneurial ideas in 8 categories each year
