Our Food and Environment:
Food production is the largest human impact on the planet. The world’s current agricultural system uses 70% of all fresh and groundwater, wastes 34% of all food, and has contributed to the loss of one-third of all arable land. And while the global population is expected to approach 10 billion by 2050, food insecurity is still on the rise.
Food systems and the environment are interconnected in many additional ways including as a major source of greenhouse gas emission, biodiversity and habitat loss, and pathogen outbreaks. Addressing these issues requires a fundamental shift in how we approach food and the environment.
SVF’s Food Systems & Environment Circle seeks to invest in entrepreneurs building transformative, scalable businesses that provide products, services, and technologies to improve the overall health and sustainability of the food system and environment. We are interested in ventures addressing issues such as, but not limited to:
- Climate change
- Clean energy
- Food access and security
- Food safety and traceability
- Soil health
- Water and sanitation
