In conjunction with National Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, the Zell Lurie Institute Alumni Programs hosted a ZLI Alumnae Entrepreneurship Showcase with virtual events spanning November 19 through December 1, 2020. Included in this multi-day program was the opportunity for the public to vote for a U-M alumnae founder that has built a successful business and continues to exemplify the characteristics of a ZLI entrepreneur.
Out of 21 companies competing in the showcase, one company stood out amongst the rest. Invested Musician, co-founded by Rupal Bain, Ross MBA, ’08 (MS SEAS) Erb Institute received over 50% of the total vote.
Rupal Bain and her partner Andrew Bain, Principal Horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, believe you don’t have to choose between being an artist and making money. You just need a game plan and a bit of motivation. Invested Musician works to educate and coach artists who not only want to build successful careers, but also be financially stable. The business offers 8-14 week mastercourse experiences where individuals learn from leading industry experts in the areas of music, finance, business, mental health, physical therapy and more – supporting the complete life of a musician. Rupal and Andrew promote diversity, equity and access with an all female management team, 30% racial diversity on staff and a promise to donate 5% of revenue back to the community. They are leading the way for a new model of music education that challenges the status quo and is driving market transformation.
Coming up behind Rupal were Celsee, Inc., Founded by Priya Gogoi (EMBA’ 20), and Lillian Augusta, co-Founded by (Nana Britwum, MS ’20). Celsee received over 20% of the vote and Lillian Augusta brought in nearly 12% of the vote.
